What is it?

Smart City Business Talks (SCB-TalK) is a knowledge platform that hosts conversations, lectures and presentations on the most diverse aspects involving cities.

 

Business leaders, scientists, researchers, architects, artists, entrepreneurs, designers and anyone who has an idea or vision to improve cities and the lives of their citizens, can apply to participate and become a SCB-Talk Speaker.

What are the goals?

The SCB-TalK aims to inform and educate people about the countless ways to improve the quality of life in cities, in addition to allowing the creation of sustainable actions and projects. The dissemination of simple and creative ideas can stimulate the future adoption of effective public policies by municipalities.

 

A good idea can be something inspiring, capable of changing people's worldview, making them aware of the need to improve people's quality of life, in any area of human activities. In our case, involving cities and the way people live, work and play in them.

SCB-TalK Guidelines

SCB-TalK Guidelines:
• Each lecture or conversation lasts from 5 to 15 minutes
• The approach needs to be timeless, ensuring the longevity of the recording
• Claims and data used by speakers must be technically substantiated
• Prohibition of personal or commercial promotion without connection with the idea discussed
• Prohibition of public involvement in recordings
• Recording in person or online
• Objective presentation or conversation, following pre-established guidelines
• Prohibition of polarized speech or that offends beliefs and values, especially political or religious
• Obligation of the assignment of exhibition rights by the speakers
• Prohibition of remuneration for speakers

What do we look for from Speakers?

  • Objectivity and respect for the 15-minute limit
  • That the central theme addressed is attractive, coherent and/or inspiring
  • Total domain of the subject dealt with
  • Reliability of the information and data presented
  • If there is a slide show, it should be planned and with copyright permissions for the images used
  • Start the presentation with an engaging story or a curious/inspiring idea
  • Always keep the focus on the central theme
  • To conclude by saying how the idea presented can contribute to creating a better city

Participation format

SCB Talks events will take place in 2 formats:

  • Digital Format: when the speaker is not able to participate in face-to-face events, such as foreigners, for example. This allows for greater breadth and sharing of ideas.
  • In-person Format: presentations that take place at events organized by the SCBA, especially during its congresses, when it receives a large number of specialists.

The selection of national and international interested parties is made through "Calls" on the SCBA website, when they can make their entries and indicate the topics of interest. After evaluation by the Curator Committee, lectures and conversations will be selected for SCB-TalK throughout the year. Sponsoring companies are entitled to a certain number of entries, but are subject to the same entry and selection rules regarding relevance, quality of speakers, presentations and performance in front of the cameras.

Speaker Registration

SCB Talks lectures and conversations can be on any topic, but they must always create a connection with cities, from the point of view of customs, lifestyles, arts, technologies, economy, entrepreneurship, etc.

 

Speakers' registrations are made through the SCB-TalK website, regardless of whether the candidates are sponsors or not. During registration they must:

  • Create profile with personal and professional information
  • Select one from the various themes available
  • Choose whether you want digital or face-to-face format
  • Choose a lecture or conversation
  • Detail your idea or content proposal
  • Develop an interesting biography
  • Submit a test video for evaluation by the Curatorship
  • Attach photo in high resolution
  • Inform how you see your contribution to improving the quality of life in cities
  • Sign image and display rights release

Advantages of being a SCB Talks Speaker

Speakers selected in SCB Talks calls will have the following benefits:

  • Designation of "SCBA Speaker" with biography and photo on the website
  • Invitations to speak at SCBA Congresses and other events in Latin America
  • Right to free registration at SCBA Congresses in Latin America
  • Official diploma "SCBA Speaker"

Questions and answers

  • How can I become a SCB Talks Speaker?

    To be a SCB-TalK Speaker, simply register and submit a proposal for a lecture or presentation, which will be evaluated by our Curator Committee. If approved, you will be eligible to be a Speaker. Anyone can apply: artists, philosophers, scientists, consultants, entrepreneurs, etc.

  • Why do I have to go through this selection process?

    Being a SCB Talks Speaker is a great differential in people's careers and we are very careful in the choice process, as only people with clear ideas and good communication can become SCB-TalK Speakers. To guarantee the quality standard, it is essential that each participant and each proposal is rigorously analyzed by the project's curator, formed by people from different backgrounds and experiences, invited by the SCBA.

  • How is the application process?

    Registration is carried out on the SCB Talks website and the process is simple, consisting of questions that help us get to know you: your goals, achievements, interests and ideas, in addition to basic personal information.

  • What are the criteria for selecting participants?

    Each questionnaire is carefully analyzed and checked by the members of the SCB-TalK Curator Committee, aiming to find people who can effectively inspire and contribute with ideas and proposals for the improvement of cities.

  • Do I have to pay a fee on registration or in case I am selected?

    No, it is absolutely free to register or make any presentations at SCBA events or platforms. We believe that knowledge should never be commercialized and that inspiring ideas should be shared with everyone.

  • What should I notice in the application process?

    • Be very careful during the registration process and answer each question carefully and responsibly, your answers can be decisive for your acceptance or not as Speaker SCB Talks
    • Make your biography perfect and don't limit yourself to just listing positive points of your professional or academic career, we look for remarkable people and all information about you will be important
    • Your social media is relevant to our analysis, but we want to know more about you, so show us your hobbies, your projects and your work
    • Tell us a brief interesting, dramatic, curious or fun anecdote about your life, it will show us a lot about you
    • Fill out the application form yourself, do not delegate this responsibility to anyone. After all, only you can show us your true essence
